Paint Thinners

Paint thinner can be an essential part of your painting project. Thinning paint makes it ideal for use in professional sprayers, which can half the time it takes to complete a big painting job. Some paints need to be thinned before you apply multiple coats, or to guarantee a better finish.

The most popular type of paint thinner is white spirit for oil based products, and the one Paintmaster recommends for domestic and trade projects. It can be used for more than just thinning too; white spirit is an excellent cleaning product.

White spirit can be used to clean old oil based paint from brushes and rollers. Dry paint residue will stick the fibres and bristles together, ruining the finish of each coat of paint. Thinner isn’t a complete fix, we always recommend buying fresh brushes and rollers after a few different projects, but it can be a lifesaver for those on a tight painting budget.

Finally, white spirit is also great for cleaning up spillages. Even when using a professional dust sheet, paint runoff can find its way underneath and dry in pools before you notice. Adding white spirit to a clean cloth will dissolve the oil based paint and remove the stain with only a few seconds of scrubbing.
