Description

There’s no job more satisfying than painting a fence on a warm day. But unless you’re Huckleberry Finn, regular old whitewash just won’t cut it. It’s the same for painting sheds and other wooden surfaces too; don’t let inferior paint ruin the look of your garden.

Our acrylic shed and fence paint is an easily applicable, water-based product. Unlike oil-based paint, water-based paints are more beginner friendly, so if you’re new to exterior painting, they’re the best option to start with.

There’s a common misconception that oil-based paints are preferred by professionals. A few years ago this was the case, but nowadays water-based paints are just as high quality and have similar durability.

The Best Paint for Wooden Surfaces

Our shed and fence paint was designed to do more than just make your surfaces look good. It protects the wood surface from weather, fungi, insects, and general wear and tear, meaning your shed, fence, and other garden wood will look great for a long time.

Unlike some acrylic wood paint, that creates a plasticky finish, our paint allows the natural texture of the woodgrain to shine through.

Thanks to its versatile formula, our best fence paint can be used on all kinds of wood. Once it has dried, our fence paint is also safe for animals and plants.

FAQ's

Can you use shed and fence paint on decking?

Although shed and fence paint can be durable, they are designed to protect wood from the elements such as UV radiation, moisture, and temperature fluctuations. They are not designed to take foot traffic, therefore we would recommend that for your decking you use a paint that is specifically designed to withstand foot traffic, to preserve the wood for longer than shed and fence paint would.

Is Fence Paint Waterproof?

Most fence paints are designed to resist water, with some providing better resistance than others. The paint compound is designed to protect fences against rain and snow throughout the harshest times of year. However, fence paint does not repel standing water, like decking paints, so keep this in mind when choosing the best fence paint for your project.

If you fence panels are more exposed to the elements, you may want to consider choosing a type of fence paint that offers more water resistance.

Is green a good colour to paint a fence?

We definitely  recommend painting your garden fences green, mainly because with the right shade it is perfect for disguising your garden fence alongside its surroundings. Due the green fence paint blending into the surroundings it can give the illusion that the garden space is larger than it really is.

Is grey a good colour for a fence?

If you are wanting to achieve a modern, neutral finish to your garden fence or wooden panels we recommend choosing a grey fence paint. It’s bold enough to draw a boundary without dominating the space it borders. Also if you make sure you get a high quality grey fence paint then with a couple layers you should have no issue painting over darker colours, for example dark green, and brown already on the fence.

Is painting a fence white a good idea?

Painting your garden fences white will transform your garden and make it feel brighter and bigger. Although white fence paint will make your fences stand out in your garden, over time they will make dirt and mould be a lot more noticeable compared to darker colours. Therefore if your were to paint your fences white, you would have to clean them more regularly than other options, to keep them looking as bright and modern as when you first painted them.

Is painting your fence brown a good idea?

Similarly to some shades of green, brown fence paint will help your fences blend into the surrounding environment. Painting your fences brown will also look more natural in your garden especially if you have any trees, wooden furniture or a wooden shed. Even if the shade of brown paint you would like is similar to the fence panel shade, it is crucial that you still paint it to protect the wood from the elements.

Is shed paint the same as fence paint?

Shed and fence paint are both used to protect and preserve wood, therefore as long as your fence is wooden as well as your shed, they do the same job. Not only does shed and fence paint protect the wood it also colours the wood allowing the natural texture of the woodgrain to shine through.

Should I Paint My Fence Black?

Black fence paint can be a great addition for your garden, as black fences will absorb heat from the sun, which could help you out if you find yourself often feeling nippy outside. Painting your fences black will make your area seem more enclosed, which can be great for seating areas around a fire pit, however if you would like your garden to appear larger and more open we would recommend a lighter colour.

Should your fence and shed be the same colour?

Painting your shed the same colour as your fence will help the shed blend into the background of your garden, and not stand out. This is why we recommend that you use the same shed and fence paint as it will make your garden a lot more aesthetically pleasing when they match.

What's the best colour to paint a shed?

We would recommend that if you have a fence in your garden, you paint your shed the same colour as the fence using the same shed and fence paint to help your shed blend in. Some good colour ideas would be a dark green to blend into your garden, however if you want your shed to stand out and be the focal point for the garden, a bright colour such as white shed paint will do this for you.
